Welcome to D & J's Saw n Save

This website has been provided as a courtesy of the Forestry Forum, the best forum going!

Background:

D & J's is a father/son operation that is being conducted on a father/grandfather's place. The initial concept was based on some 30 odd trees available to be sawn into lumber. These 30 odd trees planted a seed that was nurtured right here on the Forestry Forum.

My son had grown up with the intention of no college, get a manual labor job, work hard all day, get off work and go party, get up the next morning and do it all again. He wanted to work hard. He enjoyed hard work. In his mind's eye, he envisioned land clearing as the ideal job. An unfortunate accident robbed him of that option. His website, Burnedguy.com is still under construction.

OK, the basics have been explained. After much research and thought, a sawmill appeared to be a solution. My Dad would get rid of some problem trees. My son would have a chance to work outdoors and work hard within his limitations. Me? Well, I'm along for the ride.

The sawmill of choice for us is a Timberking 1220. It is the manual mill with a 20hp upgrade over the 15hp standard. The logic of the upgrade was we would mostly be cutting oaks. It has been a good choice. The ongoing support from Timberking has been exceptional.

Goals:

Cutting lumber and ultimately selling the finished product. Along the way, we will construct and market some other wood products from the wood we saw. Wow, that sounds like everybody else doesn't it?

Current Projects:

Build a solar kiln with 1000bf capability.

Clean out my woodworking shop so I can move in there without knocking something over.

Build a few goods from lumber we have cut.

Sell, make money, get fat, be happy. I've got the last two down pat.

Our main website is Woodworlds.com, come on over and browse a bit. It is ALWAYS under construction.
