I started to have phone problems around the end of September and on the third of October I went to Walmart and got a new flip phone. Right off the bat before evening the battery was dead just like my old one. I couldn't call out or receive calls most of the time seemed like if it was early morning I could use it. So I called Verizon they said they were have tower problems and it would get better but to call there teck number. So did that a few times still problems. So yesturday I ran back to Walmart to see what I could do, they told me there was a number of complaints with the same problems. This morning I got rainned out so on my way home I stopped at the Verizon store. My wife had her old Galaxy 5 so I told them I wanted to use her old phone and trade mine back sense it didn't work. The flip phone I had purchased at Walmart cost me $192.00 which was nuts for a flip phone I felt . I wanted them to credit my account $192.00 they told me they couldn't do that, in the mean time the guy tells me that Verizon had lost there lease on a cell tower north of me and any body that had a G3 phone they wouldn't work any more. So I asked him for numbers that I could call to see why they wouldn't credit the account. After pushing enough buttons on my wife's old phone I got to talk to someone. After getting off the phone I felt like a dog chasing his tail I was more confused then ever. To make a long story short they would take my old phone back and check it out then send it back to me. I told them about the cell tower and the G3 problem in our area , I might as well talked to a tree I would of got more usable information . As far as getting my money back on a product that didn't work I guess I am up a creek without a paddle. It's not about the $192.00 it's the principle of the whole thing. Just not right in my opinion.

Verizon suxs.  They're our only option for service at our house and it's sketchy most of the time.  They'll tell you what they think you want to hear.

Have had Verizon for 10+ years as its really the only option if you want a chance at service UP here. Haven't really had any complaints or problems with them in all that time. I have found that the people at walmart and the other cell phone place in the "big city" are nothing more than retailers and know next to nothing about what they are sell, so I skip them and just do business directly with Verizon themselves.

Though it is out of their policy, you could try returning it to Walmart. That would likely involve a manager - they have more leeway than the front line staff.  You officially have 14 or 15 days according to their policy. Complain that the phone is defective - it will not hold a charge, and cannot make or receive calls. Settle for a store credit if they won't give a cash refund. Plan on spending some time.

QuoteMust be returned within 14 days and 15 days:
Post-paid cell phones must be returned within 14 days of receipt
Pre-paid cell phones must be returned within 15 days of receipt

If you have not already, you will need to port your number over to a different phone (wife's Galaxy 5?) to not lose your telephone number.

Verizon tends to have the best connectivity in rural areas - at least out west, but they are always the most expensive. For that reason I use Ting.com, a Sprint (CDMA) and T-Mobile (GSM) reseller that has great customer service. A human has always answered the phone the few times I've need to call.

A flip phone should not cost more than $40 - $80, and can had for $10.

My wife has been escorted out of the Petoskey Verizon Store more than once.  The last time was a couple weeks ago.  We got four new phones because we were told that they all qualified for a large discount because our plan is a business plan.  We wanted to pay for the phones in full when we got them but were told to wait one billing cycle for what reason I don't remember.  The bill came with the full price of the phones on it.  Dee went into the store to straighten it out and was told that those phones didn't qualify for a discount that quarter  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  She was escorted out again  ;) ;D  If we had AT&T signal here that's what we'd have.  Yes, Verizon SUXS >:(

I'm curious, have you tried taking the phone back to Walmart?

Why would Verizon take back a phone you bought at Walmart?

I've got 6 phones with Verizon. I started with Cellular One back in the late 80's. they became Alltel then Verizon. Verizon is the only carrier that works at the Tenn house with reliable service.

Have only had 2 problems with Verizon one was with a ex's new phone which wouldn't work north of Atlanta. Turned out it was something with the coding in the software. Took 3 weeks to fix. it was such a hassle I got rid of both the phone and GF.

Last year Sue Ann's phone quit working. It was a year and a day old. They took care of it and sent her a new one.

Used to have an AT&T phone for work and it's service and their customer service made all you guys bad version stories seem like no big deal.

Bill I paid Verizon for the phone but Walmart handled the deal .

Update I just got a call from Texas and was told to take the phone back to a store in Lima Ohio. I asked him about the tower lose and that it probably will work if it gets to a different tower. So there going to check it out and he will call me back. Know matter how it comes out I will give them credit for trying to make it right. When I was younger I would of gotten upset at the store but as time has went buy I try to be respectable to everyone.

I started out with AT&T and had terrible service. This was years ago, so they have probably improved. I went to Verizon and have never looked back, knock on wood, the service has been good. I had Verizon when there was no Verizon in Alaska and several guys on the slope got out of state phones because I had much better service than what they had.

Now we have Verizon here, but I still have my New Mexico number and antique flip phone. I do get calls from them occasionally telling me I am eligible for a new phone. lol  I always answer them the same way and that is, you do realize you are talking to me on my flip phone don't you. lol If it ain't broke, it doesn't need fixing. lol

Their all about the same.  I've had SBC, Altel, Cinqular, Verizon, and AT&T.  The service representative you talk to is under tremendous pressure to sell, sell, sell service, but don't cross the line.  Some do and promise more than they can deliver.

Cell service depends on how far one is from the tower and what type of equipment is in the tower.  The companies know the money is in metro area's and along the interstates.  Rural areas always get the poorest service.

I have to give credit to Verizon.  They replaced an out of warranty air card for me.  Later when I switched to AT&T they let me out of my contract without making me pay the penalty.

I started with Verizon and now have ATT, they both have spots where they are better than the other. ATT has a good signal in my woods where Verizon didn't so that made the difference to me.

There is an AT&T tower about a mile to the East of my house and there's a Verizon tower about a mile to the West of my house!

I can see both of them from inside the house!

I have AT&T, because it was here long before Verizon was!

I get good service, but there are some "dead spots" in the area (hilly), but you have that no matter which carrier you have!

I switched from AT&T to Verizon about a year ago, waited until the phones/plan were on sale.  Had to as the service in rural areas of No. Cal and Eastern OR was non existent with AT&T.  Found that out the hard way when elk hunting last year. Previous year, service, but AT&T pulled out. Verizon user in camp, had to use his phone to call back to the business (after the morning hunt!) each day.  Have to say, no issues so far, but you never know!

I agree with chuck
they are both good services in the area that they cover.
I have ATT which works at my house and my ADK hunting camp and many other places near my home.
Verizon works better at my other hunting club.
I have had both over the years and both have pluses and minuses.

i use a phone very little except for the internet. but i can not get high speed unlimited internet service at my home without going with a cellphone connection. i went with a company called metro pcs the first of this year. they advertised unlimited high speed internet at an attractive price. i use the wi fi connection most of the time. i found it slowed to a crawl after 5 gb of downloads unless you are looking at the phone screen  their literature explains that it slows down in very small print at the bottom of the page so i dropped them.at this time i am using version for my internet and it is fast enough for me most of the time.it is a bit pricey but i have unlimited phone text and internet.
