Anybody able to tell the pros and cons of unlocking my I6? I currently have an ATT contract and the phone is locked. It appears to be an easy enough process to unlock it. I would like to be able to use it when I travel to work with a local sim card but that requires unlocking it. This would also allow me to use the blue tooth feature with my hearing aids. I have an unlocked phone I can use but it's not that good of a phone and for sure doesn't blue tooth to my aids.

If your phone is eligible to be unlocked, there is really no downside to doing so. All unlocking does is allow you to use it on any carrier that supports that phone model. All of your other settings and apps remain the same.

Easier to sell an unlocked phone in the future.

It's eligible. I already checked that.  The thing that worries me is that I read I would have to back up my data and reprogram it every time I switched cards.

I is always a good idea to have a current back up of any mobile device, especially when making a major change to that device.

Swapping in a new SIM card should not impact what is on your phone. You may need to re-login to web accounts as the new SIM may be recognized as a new device. A new SIM also gives you a new phone number. You may also need to update carrier settings (the phone will prompt you) when the new SIM encounters the network for the first time.

Did this last year on a trip to London. Unlocked (and backed up) two iPhone 5s'. Bought and installed a UK SIM (and phone #) for use in London. Swapped the original SIMs back in when we returned with no problems.

If you swap phones, and put your old SIM in a new phone, then you need to back up the old phone and restore onto the new phone.
