This time of the year I feed the bees some honey back to them all.

Peter, I think you may have the knowledge we need. A friend needs to move some hives for his daughter from a suburban location to a rural location where bears are possible/probable. He is putting some metal T-posts around them to run a solar electric fence. Any words of experience as to spacing, number of wires, or anything else that should be done?

You better have a pretty hot fence to keep them out, my brother worked at a zoo years ago and the electric fence they used to keep the bison in ran off of 220. Just to keep the goats I had in I started the first wire at 6" then 12", 18", 24", 36", 48". I didn't run a ground wire in between the hot wires but for bears it could be a good idea. In the middle of summer when the ground was very dry there wasn't alot of juice from a 15 mile 120v shock box to zap you with.

I have no faith in an electric fence. That's why I have a [Bee House]
