What exactly is that?  Slow seepage over time?  What's growing in it?  Why so much to replace it?

Oh, and....................that sucks.  :(

It's getting replaced with a viessmann vitocell 300
That's all my friend would put in.

Apparently top of the line heaters, judging from the costs.  I guess he knows if he's adamant about it, right?

Sorry about your string of bad luck  :(.
On the brighter side very nice workmanship on the plumbing. Hopefully you get years of trouble free service out of it.

Glad for you that it's done.  It sure is a big bill, though.  I couldn't have swung it and would have ended up with a cheaper Lowe's water heater self installed.

Sorry for the bad luck and the cost. However, I must say the craftsmanship is very impressive.

That does not sound like free hot water to me. 3k would buy me a new heater and pay for the propane I use for 6 years.  ???

I think I would have bought a water conditioner . If the water did that to your water heater what is it doing to your outside boiler .
A bunch of chainsaws a BT6870 processer , TC 5 International track skidder and not near enough time

Just Me

I had one of those at my last house, never gave me a moments trouble in ten years. Price must have gone up like everything else.

This is what I went with in the new house. No metal at all and a lifetime warranty. Been in four years now with no issues.

I did the math between the best NG models and this one, arguably the best electric and there is no way with the two of us that the gas would ever pay off. This thing holds heat so well that after a 24hr power outage the water was still hot enough to take a shower, amazed me. I had a Gen big enough for the well but not the heater and I needed a shower. I was pleasantly surprised. Now with more people than two it starts to swing toward the gas models.
