Tap stained maple boards in Mass
« on: April 24, 2017, 03:43:34 pm »
I'm looking for some maple boards that have patterns created by past tapping of the tree. I want to make some pint jar displays for our homemade syrup. I don't need a whole lot of it; just a few boards. Thanks in advance!

I had 6 5ft logs that was over 48in on the small end and split them with the chain saw  so they could be sawed the one log had over a 100 spiel marks on one side  and no one would saw them they didn't want to hit an old sap spiel I even offered to pay for the blades they where neat some of the holes never filled in they all made good fire wood what a shame

Necessity is the mother of invention. You could make some, drill holes in a maple log where ever you want, brush the holes with some dark/black stain, let dry and saw out the boards you desire.

I went through approx 2mbf of sugar maple today and I actually found a slab that had tap holes in it.  What happened to the boards, no idea!  But I have about 3mbf more to saw this weekend so if I happen to find any I'll set some aside.

I was at the Mass Maple warehouse last Saturday and they had some small tables made from maple with tap holes. Give them a call, they may have some left over boards.

Google says 4hr 20min. Guess the distance depends on your need! Sorry we're not closer.

I have a couple big sugar maple slabs done with my Lucas mill that have some neat taphole stain. The slabs are 8 ft long and from 2 to 3 inches thick. They are over 30 inches wide.

I am in Bradford Vt

Ben

These are the best photos I got. They have been air drying 3 years. Can't see the stain because of aging of the slab. But you can see 3 tapholes on this one diagonal across it. They were to heavy to move more the  I did. I would take 50$ a pop to a friendly forum member
