 April 2017 marks two centennial events for WW 1, "The great war"

The US entered WWI, April 6, after two years of diminishing relations with Germany,
100,000 deployed initially with over 2 million by the end.

On Sunday the 9th Canada and it Allies will honor the battle of Vimey Ridge.
A significant event for the Canadian military and its people,
Success at Vimey brought a new respect for the Dominion, all 4 military divisions from
Canada participated together and the unity demonstrated there was felt at home.
A seat at the Paris Peace Conference followed as did a seat on the League of Nations.

It does have a very special meaning for Canadians. I remember a great uncle who fought in that battle, he survived the mustard gas but his lungs were ruined. He lived as a semi invalid for another fifty years, still managed to father two sons.
