I'm working on an old 540A. Are they 12 or 24 volt?  The batteries are set up in 24 volt configuration but the alternator was a 12 volt. Alternator isn't working right now so I'm trying to figure out if I need to hook the batteries up as 12 or get a 24 volt alternator.

Ok. I'm guessing they didn't know what they're doing when they hooked up the batteries. And in turn it fried the alternator

that thing should spin over like there is no pistons in it at 24v  :) did you have it running if not  does it have that electric shut off in the injector pump it may have fried that if it doesn't start

If it runs it didn't fry it on a Deere it needs power to run. I sometimes wish they were more like a cat tho

It did spin over good. Yes, I had it running and pulled wood for a couple of days.
