I have read and understand the terms of the Classified section of the Forestry Forum.
I got for sale a used REN MFG. HD-24 Portable Power Take-Off Unit. I bought this used from a fella up in Maine. He did a bunch of little TLC stuff to it before I got it and I've done some more. I bought this to power my Hakki Pilke 1x37 firewood processor. I've run two cord through the unit, it runs the processor, BUT, not up to my standards. Once warmed up it runs the machine as designed but I have trouble running 2 functions at once (example - splitting and cutting) and that in turn made it take longer to produce a cord of wood. The portable unit is just lacking a little in the HP department, and that is hurting my production. I think it would work great for somebody doing 20 or so cord a year but I don't think it's right for me. With all that being said I'll give you the goods on the unit.
Power is from a Honda V-Twin
New(er) Battery, electric start
Belt drive with a hand clutch
Chain drive to the PTO stub
PTO stub is standard 540, 6 spline
Set up on a stand that is easy to fork around
Unit fits into the back of a pickup (for mobile operation)
I have a new PTO shaft and 2 pillow bearings on order, those are included in the sale.
It will need new chain (#50)and sprockets sooner vs. later, but is usable
Most parts are off the shelf at parts store or ag. supplier
Looking for $2300. I'll be right up front, I paid $2000 for this rig last fall. I'll have the $300 into it between the new shaft, bearings, and all the other little stuff I've done to it (plus $ to go to the forum). Price is always negotiable but there isn't much wiggle room
This might work good on a bale wrapper, or maybe small mill, or PTO generator?
A couple of the shields and the chain are removed in this picture. I have all the shields, just off for chain maintenance.
