I was plunking along on another forum when it disappeared, I got a message saying "Your PC has developed a problem and needs to restart". The computer shut down before I had a chance to determine where this came from.
I restarted and promptly changed the password. Have I been hacked?

Unlikely.

That's what MS has done to get rid of the "Blue Screen of Death" that previous versions of Windows used to suffer from. Now it's a much friendlier message, and that's about all.

Software bug? Power glitch? Just a feature of Windows? Hardware failure? Who knows.

If it keeps doing it, then you need to investigate why. Otherwise you mutter a few words and carry on.
