I hav'nt logged in in a while. I've been wanting to buy a bigger (than my 455 Rancher) saw for a while and have done alot of reading about the Husky 372XP's. I got the notion to go "look" at one at the local Stihl/Husky dealer. Well, I should have left the wallet at home because I ended up bringing home a new 372XP w/20" bar. Also bought a 24" bar and chain for it. I believe I'll be happy with it, can't wait to get it broke in and tearing up some oak.  ;D

Was going to upload a pic of the new saw but couldn't figure it out so i'll work on that and get one uploaded soon.

Thanks, thought I'd try a Husky with an inboard clutch this time. The 455 has been a heck of a good saw for what it is but that outboard clutch can be a real pain.

The inboard clutch is one of very few features that I don't really like with the 372 - but mostly it doesn't matter much on a saw that size.

The only thing I have against the outboard style is that it's hard to get bar/chain off if the bar gets pinched tight, does teach you to pay better attention and not pinch the bar in the first place  :D

 I'll try this
The new 372xp on top, old 455 rancher on the bottom.

On most fairly recent Husky saws with outboards the clutch can easily be knocked off, which solves the issue - but there aren't always room/access for it if the saw is stuck in a felling cut with the clutch side down.
Anyway it is better to avoid getting the saw stuck in the first place, wedges are your friends!

LeeB

I really like mine. I've had it for 12-14 years now. Don't use it as much as I used to. Been using my newer 562XP or 346XP because they are lighter and handle most of what I do. Got the 372 with 24" bar out the other day to cut some large diameter cookies for my daughter and wanted it to be a single cut. The torque and throaty growl felt good.  8)

I had my 372 for maybe about the same time as LeeB. I had the rubber hoses replaced and the boot too last year. But that is really all that I have had done to it in all that time.

I believe I'll be happy with it. When I bought it, they threw in 3 bottles of the XP fuel and a 6 pack of the premium XP mix oil to double the warranty. After thats gone, I'll probably just go back to my Stihl silver bottle synthetic mix as I've had very good luck with it so far.

Husqvarna is not a popular saw in this area  because the company tried  a power play on the saw shop owners .They lost .The closest dealer is 40 miles away and doesn't keep a good supply of parts .

Unlike Stihls policy of not being able to ship parts evidently Husqvarna allows it .As such what few parts I need come from a dealer in N Carolina who by the way sold chain loops a slight bit cheaper than a previous west coast  sponsor on this site .

It's seldom I get one to work on one and only own 4 myself .Two little trim saws 235,335  or something like that ,a 281 and a 2100 CD .Those BTW are classics .

From what I can tell, Stihl is probably a bit more popular in this area as well but there are quite a few shops fairly close to me that carry Husqvarna equipment and parts, or atleast can get parts in a timely manner. This dealer sold both Husky and Stihl, so it's kinda nice to be able to compare new saws side by side.
I like Stihls but since most everyone else I know runs Stihls, I wanted to give the Huskys a try and so far from what experience I have with them they seem to do just fine.  :)

Looks like you take care of your saws. That 372 should last a long time.A very nice saw from what I've read.Good 70cc class saw.Never had but one Husqvarna but I might like one of those if the price was right. Most of my family and friends run Stihl. There, again, its a Ford vs Chevy thing. Both are good. Both have their drawbacks for some.

Nice saw, you will enjoy.  Especially since you've moved up from your 455.  The weight will be an adjustment for sure.  Make sure you check the tune on the saw as they are sometimes too lean from the dealer.  Happy cutting!
