Hey Y'all,

I have a Stihl MS311. I have been using the stock chain that came with the saw.

Is there a better chain out there for felling trees and for cutting rounds to split for firewood?

For felling a chain is made to cut fast, the drawback is it gets dull faster. For bucking a chain is not as fast and takes longer to get dull. I'm not sure which chains would work best for your saw but when i ask my local dealer about altering saws he tells me 'I leave that up to the manufacturer'. But I'm sure someone here has solid advice
The saw is more fun than the purpose of the wood... the forest is trembling 🌳

RSC if the wood is clean, RMC if dirt every now and then is unavoidable.

Semi-chisel, from any mfg., for durable edge. Full-chisel tends to go dull like a light-switch. One moment cutting just fine, then, bang, dull. Check Forester for prices.
Why? Full-chisel cutters initiate the cut at the tiny point that's the intersection of two flat cutter faces. Seems to be somewhat delicate.
Semi-chisel has a rounded transition there between faces, which is much more durable.
No matter, one thing is consistent. You still have to file the cutters regularly, just less frequently with semi.
