I was drying in my Nyle L53 some walnut, sycamore and white oak.  To me, these look like surface checks in the white oak but I'd like a second opinion.  Could I have over dried the oak?  It had been air drying for more than 8 months and the reading that I got was around 14% before putting it into the kiln.

How thick is it? They look like regular old surface checks caused by the dry shell shrinking over a still wet and swollen core.

I would add that the MC could not have been 14% when it went in UNLESS the checks were already there from air drying. They could have opened and become more apparent after you took a little more moisture off the shell.
Yesterday, I started a load of freshly cut 4.5" White Oak squares 6' long. How do you like them beans?  :D I really don't know if I can dry these post or not. They are the toughest yet.
