A really nice guy made an appointment to get a White Oak Log sawn into 2 Mantels.
The log had a rot hole in one end......red flag.
This made me tell him again that if I hit a nail or other metal its $30 per blade.
No problem he said....this log came from my Dad's tree beside the barn. It means a lot.
Well no nails.....just an Axe. The wooden handle had actually blended in with the rest of the wood.
Even though his bill was $80.....$50 for sawing and $30 for the blade..... it took us 2 hours to chip this axe out. We both had fun and I couldn't charge him extra for the time since I had most of the fun working to see what this axe looked like.  :)

I bet someone would have paid big bucks for that chunk of wood.
If someone would have carved out a table with the ax and handle
sticking out that would have been awesome.

We did try to make it to where the Axe would be showing on the face on one of the Mantels....wouldn't work.

Pretty cool.  Did they leave a chainsaw in there also?

Now there's a log you won't forget any time soon.

Brad_bb

Did you hit it with the band or find it with the metal detector?  Did you still get the mantle pieces he wanted out of the log?
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

GDinMaine

That is just about the neatest thing. One would hope your friend will make a handle for that old ax from that white oak. The mantle will be attached to the house, but the ax can be handed down in the family.
It's the going that counts not the distance!

I hate to hear that $20 sound the mill makes when it hits metal, even an ax head.

That axe looks none the worse for wear! Re handle that thing and put it to work! Any idea how long it had been in the log? Interesting!!
