Oh no!
My 51 hp diesel has started leaking oil mainly around the base gasket. Cant tell if the front seal is leaking too.
Very distressing.
Only 1100 hrs on the engine.
Not a very big leak but gathers a lot of sawdust and is annoying.
I tried snugging (not tightening) the base bolts but this only compounded the problem.
My neighbor Tim has well over 7000hrs on his with no problems.
I change the oil and filter religiously.
Looks to me like the engine has to be removed to replace the gasket.
Good news is that it is a minor leak only needing oil added at about 100 hrs.
Much cheaper than repairing.
Of course WM no longer uses these engines.

I take carb cleaner and clean the spot as good as you can.
Then I use the Red locktight and push it in with your fingers the best you can.
You might need to do this a few times. It works for me. Seals the hole right up.

Feel your pain - I hates it when the gremlins start acting up . . . .
If I remember right, it was an issue for Cat/Perkins motor with side pressure on the main bearing seals.
Caused by too much tension on the drive belt.
Then, when they leak, it appears to be an oil pan gasket leak.
Didn't Woodmizer start to sell a support bracket that attached at the drive pulley to compensate for this?
Pete: Not saying you did anything wrong, just that it could be that your '7000 hr neighbour' has much less tension on his drive belt? (Can't remember when I check mine last!)

Hello,
We had a owner here this weekend. He has 13,000 hours on his 51 hp. He also wanted to know if there was any warranty left on his engine.  ::) .
These engines are pretty easy to repair.

Thanks all.
Oil pan is sometimes referred to as the engine base hereabouts.
There is no evidence of oil running along the pan from the front seal, just running down is a few places since I snugged the bolts.
Marty is it possible that I deformed the pan?
I didnt gorilla the bolts, just a slight turning.
Belt tension is set and checked periodically with the belt tension gauge I bought from WM Hannibal.
estimated cost to install the bearing support kit at WM is around $700, Dont know about replacing the base/pan gasket.

Hello,
Been some time since I had an oil pan off one of these. I think I have a gasket on the shelf. There are two different oil pans. The 62 hp has a larger pan and holds more oil . The engine block is the same, as is the gasket. I think   ::) one pan is 11 qt and the other is 9 qt. There would be a torque setting to the oil pan bolts. Not much more info that I can tell you. I am not crazy about putting silicone sealer on oil pan gaskets, if you get some that would squeeze out inside the mating surface,  a good chance it will end up on the oil pick up screen are even worse inside the crank oil hole , plugging it.
Hope this helps.
