Just bought a late 70's 450 b and am having some trouble locating the transmission filter, anyone have an idea where they hid this little jem ?????

I've got a "C" and if I recall it's on the right side, roughly below the brake pedal. It's rather a pain in the behind, you have to stick yourself between the tensioner spring and the track and try to hold the cover against the filter, which is sitting around a spring without dropping the three bolts that hold the cover on, and without trashing the gasket. Maybe it's simple and I'm just clumsy, but I was amazed when I fired it up and it didn't leak!

Did you look on top of the transmission under the seat?
Peterson 10" WPF with 65' of track
Smith - Gallagher dedicated slabber
Tom's 3638D Baker band mill
and a mix of log handling heavy equipment.

FYI if you google the free ( john deere - parts catalog ) and search for 450B, their is a complete break down of your machine..
