Been reading up in the forum and learning a lot about making boards outta logs. I should get my new mill in around 4 weeks hopefully and will start building a logging arch next weekend.

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, good news on your new mill!  Hopefully you'll keep us updated.  And for the record, pictures are king.  Especially when you build your new log arch (hint, hint).  :D

Good Morning and Welcome to the Forestry Forum, WranglerSS.  Congratulations on the new LT28.  Go ahead and add a couple of Logrite cant hooks to your order.  I would recommend a 48" and a 60".   ;D

Welcome WranglerSS.  What engine did you order with your LT-28?  Any optional equipment?  We added an hour meter and a small brass ball valve to the blade lube line so that we can set the flow with the tank valve and use the ball valve to turn it on and off.  We also keep a scissor jack on one end to level big logs that have taper.  Good luck with your new mill.

I got the 19hp Kohler and they had a sale on the power drive and deck kit which includes the toe boards,  winch and log turner.

Good fortune with your mill. I have an LT 27. Perfect mill for barn and shed construction.

WSS,

Good luck on that log arch. Good looking rig but I'm concerned about it bowing under the weight of a big log. You'll find out real quick if you need to add some extra braces into position on the logs for reinforcement. One great feature is the light weight will allow you to manually place the arch into position on/over the log which is often faster than trying to back it into position. Let us know how it works.

WV - the backbone is 1/4' wall plus the lift points are close enough to  the rear frame and front gusseted down tube there shouldn't be an issue.

Indeed!  How's the tongue weight empty?

Edit to add: Mea culpa, my first words should have been to mention how nice it looks with it's clothes on.  A fresh coat of paint makes even my work look acceptable.

They start getting a little fishy when you put large long logs on them.
The longest I put on so far was 56 feet long and I wont do that again...
First picture is only 34 feet long...

It is farm equipment so it might help if I get pulled over.
It always depends on the cops mood on what happens when you get pulled over for something.
At least it shows that I'm trying. The law here states that anything with that sign cant travel
faster than 25 mph. I don't take it on any main roads.

I figured I would crank the winch in the beginning but will probably convert to an electric one. I put a 3500lb electric on the logging arch and it works great.

I'm not sure what the rollers for the backstop are. Can you expand on that mod?

Congrats on the WoodMizer. I have a 2010 LT28. I second the suggestion to swap the hand crank winch out for an electric one. I think I used the hand crank once... mainly I use the loader on the tractor unless the log is too heavy for the loader.  You're going to love the mill.

yes makes the log roll easier when turning it.the electric winch makes the log turner very usefull I have a remote so it can be used from anywhere around the mill.i don't use it for loading logs as I use the tractor for that.we use a marine battery to power the winch a full charge battery will last a long time.

WLC, would you be willing to show off that new LT28? I have been right on the fence of buying one and I have looked at them just a couple times I just can't make myself pull the trigger on a new one even though I have a nearly limitless supply of logs and I am pretty sure I could make it pay itself off in a couple years.  PM me if you would be willing to show it off a little bit... I am only a couple miles from you as the crow flies..
