Use that experience as a reminder to be ever vigilant.  By most standards of falling injuries, that one is hardly worth mentioning.

The best way to dress such injuries and be able to shower is to use a Tegaderm type dressing.  Available at any medical type shop/pharmacy and is over-the-counter.  they come in different sizes.  MM, yours is going to be pretty large.  Place the smallest dressing on the wound that you can- first use the Xeroform or Adaptic I previously mentioned - then apply a single layer of a standard gauze dressing.  Then, while holding the dressing in place, apply the Tegadermn dressing.  It's like Saran wrap with a sticky side.  It adheres to your normal skin outside of the bandage and seals things pretty tight.  If water gets underneath during the shower, just change the dressing.

Bathtubs can be dangerous, slippery as all getout!

I haven't fallen very many times, but I slipped in the tub once (caught myself), about 1 years ago, and since then, I don't shower unless the wife or her son is in the house, just in case!

I showered it tonight and will let Pat dress it.  It's as ugly as a goat's butt.   :o

That is bad enough, but given what could have happened, you came out pretty good.  There were some pretty worser alternatives.

Lynn,

Just remembered and don't know if it is available here but when I was in Saudi Arabia I got a deep stab wound in my palm cleaning a unicorn fish (skin them and they taste like catfish) I had speared while scuba diving in the Red Sea at night. I stopped at an all night pharmacy and showed the pharmacist and he took me to a shelf with something called Op-Site. It was an antiseptic spray that dried and left a breathable plastic bandage. You could spray multiple times to create a thicker bandage. It worked great and the wound never even got infected which is rare for fish wounds. I kept the can in my dive bag for future coral scrapes and such till I used it up.

I don't know if it is available in the USA or sold under another name but it would be perfect for the kind of injury you have there. Might ask your local pharmacist. Good luck.
