Well I got off work early today and was planning on sawing , got home and the weather station in my yard says 100deg, needless to say I'm sitting in the recliner until the sun gets behind the mountain.

We haven't gotten that hot up here, *only* in the 90s.  It stops me every day.  Can't take the heat so I stay outta the kitchen.  High humidity as well so I only get a little time in the morning and that's it.  To heck with all of it.

What's this "heat" that you all speak of. High temp today barely hit 60°F, with a cool north wind. Had long sleeves on and had the heat on in the tractor cab.....

I was building a 20x48 foot machine shed and got the roof on two days before it went to the 90+degree mark.  I have not did one thing since then.  Have not even picked up the board ends that I have left over and that are in a pile on the ground.  I am talking lazyboy time.  I used to get up at 5 am.  I am getting up at seven and it is all ready steamy by then.  I have started out side and picked maby one board up and said heck with this.

The shed still needs 3 walls if I go that far and I am waiting for my next big spert of energy.  Till then I am blaming the heat.

It has been awful hot here.  I can make it to early or mid-afternoon, but slowly.  Yesterday it was 100 degrees.

At 7:00 a.m. it is 80 degrees with 79% humidity.  Going to be a real rough one today.  Without the sawshed and fans, I would be toast.

Yep to hot here and JR and I with past heart trouble we have not been sawing any. I was been
in the high 90's with high due point. The only thing that's the heat is good for is the solar kiln.
Its been at 140 degs most day so the oak and ash will be done soon. Sure would like the cooler
weather as we have three more logs we need to mill be for JR goes to Texas for the winter.

Living in Texas, Heat is just a way of life. You have to be acclimated to the heat. You learn to work early and stay hydrated. Maybe take a nap in the heat of the day. Finish up later in the day. I have to much stuff going on to lay up on the couch ;D ;D

bkaimwood

Stopping me? Nope...but some days it sure slows ya down! My key is that I start early, and just warm right up with the temps, no always as gracefully!! Long pants and all. I drink a gallon to a gallon and a half of water on the job, and more when I get home. If I have to travel throughout the day, I don't use A/C in the truck, just makes it tougher to deal...stay hardened!  :)

Quinine is excellent for muscle cramps, prescribed by my fathers's Doctor at one time.  But you don't need a prescription, just go to any liquor store and get some tonic water with quinine.  I always keep some handy, and it's incredibly effective.  Doesn't taste great, but a glass with ice isn't bad, and the cramps are gone within a minute or two.  Not sure how it works, but it's almost instant relief.

The heat, not so much; the 12" of rain and tornado-like winds are what shut my dad down, up by Hinckley, MN.  His little lake, maybe 1 mile long and 200 yards wide rose by 3' (YES THREE FEET) in the coarse of twelve hours.  There was also the voluntary evacuation of the town to the North of him, as the water was coming over the top of the dam, normally a good 12' of dam is showing on the down stream side.

dboyt

Hot here in southwest Missouri, too.  A little powdered Gaitoraid in water does wonders.  Marathon runners drink that pickle juice, but I'm not crazy enough for that (marathons, that is-- I'll drink pickle juice, if necessary, but will pass on the vodka).  Drenched in sweat is good.  Means the body is still maintaining temperature.

When the summer heats up I dont like to eat.
But I sure do like to drink and i dont like water.
So the quest was on to find something I liked and was cheap.
What i came up with was tomato juice.
I buy dented quart cans of Tomato purée for $.25
I mix that can with 3 quarts of water and
4 tablespoons sugar and 1  teaspoons salt for a one gal mix.
Not a bad price for one gallon of drink.

Did some side work this past Tues doing a house cleanout. @95 degrees by early afternoon. Not terribly hard work, but everything ended up on the asphalt driveway to be loaded on trucks at the hottest time of day. Of course the driveway was on the south side of the house. Drank plenty of water, but no Gatorade. It hit me that night. Extreme exhaustion and sore muscles. The next morning I felt like the walking dead. Took until late that afternoon to feel recovered. Guessing I was a few ticks away from heat stroke.

Babe Hunter offered good advice.... I guess it's time I learn to follow it.

I am not fond of the hot, humid weather. I worked on an asphalt paving crew for 16 years, in MN summer is short so the company tried to wring every minute of daylight out, and then some. 12- 16 hour days of that stuff, I tell ya, I think I used up all my heat tolerance in those days. It gets above 70 now and I'm not interested  :D Plus, I sit in that A/C in the forwarder cab all day now, that's really turned me soft. Another part of the equation, when I started paving, I was 6' 5"+ and 165 lbs (beanpole :D). Now I am 265, I think maybe I don't get rid of the heat as well ;) However, I used to absolutely freeze in our frigid winters, now the cold doesn't bother me a bit. Insulation ;D You boys down south that deal with that heat for months on end...I don't think I could do it. But then you all look at us firing up machinery at -40° F and shake your heads. I know my problem with the heat and humidity is smoking for 25 years, diagnosed with copd  a couple years ago, working on quitting now AGAIN, sure hope I can beat it, I walk out into 98deg heat and factor in the humidity, it slam cuts my air off, my own dam* fault I know. Not to mention the Lyme disease I was diagnosed with 5 years ago from a tick bite, anyone with it knows it fatigues you so bad it makes every joint on your body feel like exploding !

Its been the hottest and dryest year ever, up here in Canada.
I know its nothing like the southern states here, but it was 90 in the shop today.
we are only getting 1 cut of hay this year.
The hottest time of the day is around 5pm.
I need to get one of those nice white party tents, and set it up over the mill.
Stay cool :snowball:
