This year is going to be tough. Tammy goes in the 5th of July for major foot surgery. They will be breaking, repositioning, grafting and pinning the bones in her foot.  She'll be totally incapacitated the first 7 tof 10 days, then they will put her in a solid cast for 8 weeks.  I hate to ask for help, but this year we may need to draft as many attendees as possible to jump in. Tammy absolutely refuses to let me consider scaling back and she is hoping that even more people will come this year, as she's looking forward to getting her foot fixed to remove all the pain she has been in for years, and directing traffic and visiting with lots of old and new faces.

My goodness, this is awful Tammy.  :o
There's a bunch of good people in this crowd that'll help you while your recouping.

The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

Verna, my wife, had similar surgery a few years back.  She was instructed to keep her foot elevated with ice on it for a certain period of time.  That's was crucial for proper healing.  She got a boot to wear and it helped a lot when she was able to start walking on t..he foot.  Good luck on the surgery and recovery.  Unfortunately we can't make the Pig Roast.  We have 2 granddaughters competing in roller derby and they'll be at a meet in East Tennessee.

First I sure hope that Tammy gets the pain relief she needs, and second I'd like to talk to her about it because it may be similar to what my foot doctor proposes for me. I'm sure there will be plenty of help available in that crowd.

What is it exactly you need help with so folks can plan the appropriate time?  A couple days sooner?  Can what needs to be helped out with be accomplished on THE day?

For Tammy's end, it is mostly the running around on the day before and the day of. She say's she'll get it handled, for me to just go about my business, but that doesn't stop me from worrying about her. Don't tell her I said that.

The last couple three days here it's like she is nesting. :D   We have to go north this coming weekend for Lou and Catherine's 50th wedding anniversary, so will loose 3 days of prep time of the few days she has left before surgery. We will need to do our pre-pig roast shopping tomorrow or the next day instead of the week before.

I've been burning through vacation days for tests and Dr appointments all year, so I didn't take my usual Thursday and Friday off to move the camper up to Wilson SP. We're happy to bring up any dishes or deserts and help out on Saturday. Let me know how we can help.

What I really need is for everyone to help me watch Tammy, and if she tries to do something, we say "stay put, you tell me what you need me to do."

I have had this. Think at least 3 months to get back to sort of normal. Her balance will be off until she gets used to the foot. That took me a year and several falls.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

One of these years we will make it. Just not this one. :(

Jeff..  is this a common type surgery..  how successful.. def. sounds painful.  Maybe you can ask the docs to put on an over-sized bandage so she has to stay put..  rent one of those motorized chairs to help keep her off her feet some and still get around while she's healing.  Tell the Mrs. God Bless and speedy recovery.

When my daughter was 4 years old, she broke her right femur in a shopping cart accident. To keep her relatively immobile, the bone Dr put her in a full-body cast; both legs up to her armpits.

... something to consider.  :)

:o full body cast...I am happy your Daughter is well...but the poor dear having to go through that...I'll bet that built some fantastic character in her.

Her birthday is in October and now that I think back on it, she broke it school shopping... so she was a few months shy of 4. She was sitting in the cart seat with nothing but a few clothes in the basket. My wife was a couple steps away looking at a rack of clothes. Her 5 yo brother grab the cart handle and bent his knees up to hang from it. The shopping cart flipped from his weight and broke his sister leg. We didn't have to worry about her wandering too far for the next 6 weeks. Our hometown newspaper did a full page feature with photos at her at pre-school. She's 30 now and just had her 3rd child.

Just got Tammy home after a long day. 3 hours of surgery and much more involved than the surgeonexpected. Got her settled and hope the nerve block lasts through the night for her.   This is all we can see of her foot right now. The end of her toes with the pins running through them down into her foot.
