I'm looking to repower a 1967 C4 Treefarmer. The original is a 172 diesel.I see a lot of used 172's both gas and diesel for sale in different place. Will any of the industrial line work for this skidder or is there a specific model for C4 applications.
Thanks for your help,Mick

Actually there is a difference in those Ford 172's. A true 172 skidder engine is a parent bore, which means there are no liners in the engine. Would any 172 work? I'm pretty sure they would but if I had the machine I would re-power it with something better than a 172 Ford. One thing with a C4 is it can take a wide range of engines such as a Perkin's 4.236, Detroit Diesel 353, Deutz four cylinder, and the list goes on.

bushmechanic,
Thanks for the input. If I was to use a Perkins diesel, how does it hook up to the existing drive train?

I have a C-4 and it has an English Ford diesel. A 254 cu in Dorset diesel. Around 80hp I believe. Works good and has power.
