Clamping Cleats on the Sawbunks

I'm surveying ideas for clamping cleats before I weld them onto my deck.  I am referring to the small, less than 3/4" high metal blocks or teeth that hold the cant once the squaring arms/side supports are lowered.  I feel like I previously read that ones with a point pierced the log and sometimes cracked it.  Should the cleats be square, angled to make a "tooth", how high, etc?  Thoughts appreciated!

Mine are square. comes stock on WM 4 of them 
2006 Woodmizer LT40HDG28 with command control (I hate walking in sawdust)

The two stationary ones are 5/8" high and square.
