My kids like to ask me to make furniture for them. Most recently my son and his wife have asked for a dining room table. I told my son to just come over and we will pick out something. They decided they liked the eucalyptus. I have some 8/4 live edge slabs that came from the butt log (30" X 40" d) of the birdseye tree. I had originally cut them quatersawn for guitar backs for a guy who disappeared as soon as there might be some money involved. >:( :( :snowball: :snowball: :snowball: :-\

Anyway, this lumber is laying around in my shop for maybe 20 years now, probably is dry. ;D Here are the live edge bookmatches that Danny likes.

These slabs are just under 7' long and about 14 to close to 20" wide. They are twisted and cupped and kinked in spots. Too much to just plane the defects out, so we have cut them into segments that will be easier to get flat, then will be reassembled after we get them there. Also the planks are wider at one end than the other, so we made a wedge shaped piece for the middle. That one is also too crooked to use as is, so it was split. Here is where we got to yesterday.

I'll try to better document the process as it goes along.

Just Me

Next time I am down at Johnsons in Charlotte I am going to have to see if the have any Red Gum. I have never worked any of it and I see you southern fellows are always making pretty stuff out of it.

That will be a nice table.

Maybe. Haven't heard a peep out of Danny for weeks. I told him the table doesn't move unless he shows up. ;D
