I got a hankerin' for a really good hot dog and found this Coney Island Sauce recipe and made up a batch. I cook the 'dogs in beer and grill the buns with butter. Top with the Coney sauce and your favorite topping; this makes an awesome hot dog!!

Coney Island Hotdog Sauce (Original Formula)

2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon margarine
1 ½ lbs ground beef
2 medium onions or 1 large
1-2 cloves garlic cloves
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
4-5 hot dogs ground
Salt & pepper to taste
1 small can chilies, optional

Melt butter and margarine, then add chopped onions and garlic. Cook until almost tender, then add hamburger meat. Cook until meat is done. Add chili powder, mustard , canned chili and tomato sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add ground up hot dogs, simmer another 10-15 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

I used my Griswold hand grinder for grinding the hot dogs. I also cook my hot dogs in straight beer and grill the buns with butter. Top cooked hot dogs with your favorite topping on top of the Coney sauce. This is a fairly thick sauce, but to make it thicker, add crushed soda crackers, Make a very good hot dog.
