When I stopped drinking beer in the evenings, I started to have a cup of strong coffee with Half & Half after dinner. I really look forward to it now days. However, after my coffee, I read novels like Arkady Renko mysteries, Girl with a Pearl Earing, Lonesome Dove and a ton of others. And while I'm reading, I'm snacking on Sesame Sticks, Cheezits and other fattening food. My belly would look better if I was still drinking beer. :D

Carson-saws

All sounds like the perfect evening snack.  I'm thinkin your belly thanks you.

I can not understand how it is that Starbucks took a good ole cuppa coffee and just had ta turn it into some kind of candy in a hot cup.....give me a cup of black coffee and I am a happy Man....what in theeee world!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny, one of my favorite cups of coffee is Starbuck's Veranda blend....black of course!

Over the past year, the weird guy you've come to know as Okrafarmer made yet another weird discovery. That discovery is: in his opinion, coffee tastes better if it sits out over night and is reheated after 24 hours or so. Why? Who knows.  ???  ;D

Actually, I consider it to mellow down and soften out, sitting overnight.

My MIL was a coffee fanatic and could instantly tell the difference between coffee brands.  She preferred to brew a pot, let it cool, and then keep it in the frig.  She would then pour a cup and microwave it.  She claimed that it was much better.

My friend Jimbo does the same thing. Swears it's better coffee.
I use a percolator. That 10 minutes waiting for the coffee to brew in the morning seems like 2 hours. Maybe something I could try.

Did you ever try coffee with a pinch of salt?

No, in the mug, just a pinch.  I read about it in Hunt for Red October - drinking coffee the Navy way and I had to try it  :)

Magicman

Just a pinch....no more.  Either way, before brewing or after does not matter, but measuring is easier by the cup after brewing.  There is a chemical basis for this practice. The Na+ ion (salt) diminishes bitterness by interfering with the transduction mechanism of that taste. The effect occurs below the level at which the salty taste would be registered.

We put a pinch in the grounds as that is all a whole pot needs here. We have learned that this is especially important if you have chlorinated water (city water) piped to your home or if your well water is of lower quality. That pinch of salt corrects a lot of flavour problems and leaves the coffee to be enjoyed.

Wow! Now I'm going to have to try it.

I have tried a lot of other things in my coffee, but not salt.
