I was Santa Claus at our local department store yesterday. My wife is a free lance photographer and has done pictures with Santa the last 3-4 years down there. The store folks like it as we bring in more customers for them and they are very cooperative in helping us set up and we can use anything in the store for props as needed.

I guess I saw a couple hundred kids. Babies as young as 3-4 weeks up to my 96 y/o neighbor (Last surviving veteran from WWII in our county I think). The babies generally have a short window of opportunity for a good picture before they'd cry. Some of the 1-3 y/o had to have mom or dad in the picture. Most left with part of my beard in tow. Many of the 3-6 y/o bracket were fearless and would jump in my lap right away and start telling me what they wanted and such.

The most memorable (and enjoyable?) were the 2 - 50+ y/o ladies (One visiting from Minnesota with her sister or friend) who thought it was a hoot to get their pictures on Santa's knee. The next most memorable was the gassy baby who must have farted on me 4-5 times before we were done. Also fun was talking with the guys out front doing a fund raising for Viet vets. Looked like a biker gang but good guys. They kidded me about keeping up with all my elves. I told them GPS and ankle bracelets helped as most were ex-cons and working off their community service sitting on shelves watching the kids.

When finished we packed up and headed for Charlotte NC where our daughter asked us to take pictures with the cancer kids here at the Levine Medical Center where she works as a child life specialist. Mostly I'm along for the grunt work for my wife to do the pictures but my Santa suit is in the back of the truck if he gets hung up in traffic between here and the north pole.
