I'm brand new to this and in my writing a business plan Im needing to get an average of fuel burn (in gallons) per hour so I can try to get some estimate costs of my biz in writing.

So, could all of you please give me your mills burn rate in gallons/hour.  Hopefully you'll have these numbers.  The more accurate burn rates we get here the better.

Thank you in advance for providing this info to me.

Best Regards and Merry Christmas to all.....

My 38hp Lombardini Diesel used ~4½ gallons of fuel in a day's sawing and I only shut it down for lunch.

Magicman, how many hours are in your day of sawing?  Thanks

I have the 51HP Cat and if I'm sawing hard, I can go through 10 gallons in a day.

So I would have to say 1 gallon of diesel per hour, or possibly as much as 4.5 Quarts per hour.

I'm sorry, generally from 7-9 hours.  Even with 10 hours, I have never had to add Diesel to keep from running out.

1/2 gph with the diesel and 1 gph with a 27 hp gas and the diesel saws a lot faster.  Doesn't sound like a lot of difference but I've saved around $8250 in fuel cost in over 5000 hours.  Steve

The 2yo 25hp Kohler that's on my mill now will go through about 1/2 tank (2.5 gal) in a 6 engine hour day.

My 24 horse Onan will run out in an eight hour day, but for what ever reason, it always runs out with about a gallon left in the tank. So about a half gallon per hour.

Gearbox

On our circle blade mill over the years we figure 5 gal per 1000 ft sawing 1 in and a 1000 ft per man a day .  If you are sawing cants it will all change . If you are sawing 3 in.spruce and making 2 X 4 it will be slow going . Gearbox

Maybe should be gals per 1000 bf rather then per hour.  My Kohler gas would take 1 GPH or 1 gal per 300 bf, My Isuzu diesel will take 1/2 GPH sawing 325 bf per hour sawing 325 BF per hour . If sawing by myself and less bf per hour the fuel usage will go way  down  .  Steve
