Heres a XP-1000 Homelite with the bar on the left hand side. This is not my house where the picture was taken.

Third generation logger, owner operator, 30 yrs felling experience with pole skidder. I got my neck broke back in 89, left me a quad. The wife kept the job going up to 96.

Have you seen this saw LJ?  Just wondering if it could be a reflected image?  I don't think I ever heard of a saw with such a setup before.

Mac's D-33 "Le Sabre" comes to mind, but I don't remember ever hearing of a left handed Homey.

Chet, never seen one of them before myself. I did a quick search for a left handed bar Homelite and came up with nothing, but didn't search further. Sawguy, I'd cut my leg off with that thing!  :D

I am right handed, and I always drop start with the left hand on the rope.

You could be right that the picture is a mirror image though?

Okay so we can figure out how to start it.
Then what, that thing would eat three of us right now.
Can't imagine using a saw left handed, especially 1 that large.
Yikes makes me askeered of the old girl.
