Just picked it up today and reading through manual which says "A factory new machine should not be run at high revs (full throttle off load) for the first three tank fillings. This avoids unnecessarily high loads during the break-in period. As all moving parts have to bed in during the break-in period, the frictional resistances in the shortblock are greater during this period. The engine develops its maximum power after about 5 to 15 tank fillings."  That seems nuts!  It's a chainsaw they are only supposed to run wide open. Or does it just mean don't run wide open when not sawing?

Don't run it WOT with no load, ie when not cutting something. As far as cutting, yes, run it wide open during break in. It's generally not a good idea to run WOT with no load anyway, unless for short times when tuning or something to that effect. It will loosen up as the rings seat and compression goes up some and you should see a boost in power as it gets run in. Happy sawing with the new toy!  :)

Thanks JohnG!  First good saw and I just want to start off right.  Have with all my other Stihl equipment and they have all lasted forever and still going.

As John said plus try and stay away from long hard cuts at first as they create a lot of heat.    Steve
