Goose, I wish I could. I worked with it for a little bit today and determined it will certainly require some seat time before I feel comfortable. I know there are some little tricks about how to lift heavy logs and which cylinders to use in which sequence. The only experience I have is running my little backhoe so we'll see how well that goes.

Glen, it is fun but also kinda scary, it slings some of the smaller logs around pretty well.

Nice find.  After awhile you will probably wonder how you got along without it.

Particularly at this stage of the game, try not to swing a load over anything you can't afford to lose.

ScottAR

The rules are same as your backhoe.  Using another function while swinging/slewing will slow down the swing/slew.  Blend your functions and you'll be a smooth operator before you know it.

My backhoe is 3stick w/ peddles so joysticks would be a big change for me.

What is something like that worth?

Nice find!

Kipper

Thanks guys! I was not planning on getting one and this one came up for sale and I couldn't beat the price, they are expensive. Im thinking if it doesn't work out well then I will sell it and buy something else. So far it has worked out pretty well, loaded it today with a few logs from a friends place and got better operating it. I guess time will tell.

Poston, you are always welcomed !! We don't saw near as much as you do though!

The rules are same as your backhoe. ...

Except that you've got a long log hanging out where the bucket would be, and the ability to rotate it. I've never operated one but every load that got delivered to my site was on a self-loader. I've watched a lot of logs getting handled by one of those.

The experienced guys could literally toss a log to one side. They'd swing the far end out well away from the truck and rest the near end on top of the trailer. Then they'd loosen the grapple just a little and slide it up the log. Pick up the end on the trailer, swing it out away from the truck, and open the grapple just as it got to the end of the swing. I can just imagine what would happen if I ever tried that.
