I told my wife I would build them so there was no need to keep asking me every year  ;D so after having a ladder to get upstairs for 2 years I finally built them. now for the railing....

  Sorry for the crooked picture but I cant get it rotated.
It seems I am a coarse thread bolt in a world of fine threaded nuts!

Making a living with a manual mill can be done!

We're the steps just the thicker section of tapered slabs or did you cut thick slabs on purpose just for the steps? Either way, I like it! Slabs are really an under-utilized building material.

Jake, the steps were 8"ish half logs. i cut the logs in half and i barely skimmed/milled off the back side so i could have a straight edge to cut them square on the ends. as soon as i finished i thought about how nice it would have been to use slabs and then put a slide out drawer under each step with a log face. a bit of hidden storage. I agree about the slabs being under used in building.

The railing will be cedar log and cedar spindles. What I haven't decided is to bolt the post to the sides or tenon them in the stair stringers.
