Where does a guy get cable with a hook end to tie down logs using a welded on cargo winch?

I believe those winches are only approved for straps and not cable. The log trucks that use cable tie downs generally have a short piece of chain on the end of the cable instead of a hook and a load binder for tie down.

I generally don't like the chains or cable for tie downs because they always are loose. The straps can be stretched a little to allow for settling and the chains and cables not.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

The company I work for has about 15 trucks hauling wood and I'm not aware of any of them still using straps, as long as the cables meet the strength requirements then everything is fine up here.

Dot approved chains and straps have identifying marks or labels. How are cables identified as being Dot legal?

Cables would have tags.

I might of figured out my issue tho, and may be able to still use straps.

I got a piece of 3/8 cable around 65' with a hook the other day for around $35.00 at HF the other day. They sell it as a replacement winch cable.
Give me a new saw chain and I can find you a rock in a heartbeat.
