I have a little Blue Spruce that is having a rough life I would like to try to save it if I can. Drought and then a really harsh winter really hurt it a couple of years ago. I thought it was already gone but some of the limbs stayed green last year so I didn't remove it and this year there was new growth.

It was planted in memory of a family member that passed away so I would really like to try to save it.

Can anyone suggest how I should go about it. First question is this, the dead limbs should I trim them or leave them? Second should I apply some kind of fertilizer?

That tree looks like one that I have that I figured a buck wrestled with it last fall.

Good to see some new growth.

There is hope for it.  But I'd remove the grass around the base of the tree so the mice are less likely to make a winter nest there. They tend to gnaw on things and could girdle the tree at the base.

It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others

Cut the dead wood out and fertilize it. Hope it comes back.
I've met Vets who have lived but still lost their lives... Thank a Vet

Family man and loving it :)
