I am rebuilding the carb on a friends Jonsered 2036 and can't get the throttle cable to return to idle. It idles fine without the trigger cam hooked under the cable but sliding the trigger cam under the cable, tightens the cable past idle. There is no adjustment on the cable that I can see.  Anyone familiar with this saw? I understand it is made by Poulan.

Here is IPL: http://www.jonsered.com/ddoc/JONI/JONI1993_AAaa/JONI1993_AAaa_I9300009_.pdf

Does carb look like this? They are normally $6 shipped.

I just rebuilt a Husky 141. Looking at IPL, it's a similar saw. IIRC - the throttle linkage went in a slot and not the hole. Either wrong place to insert or you've routed in a longer route somehow or that carb is not original or cable is not original.

Pics would help answers.

Not sure, but looks a little different. The one I have is a Walbro, I think a 239. No slot only a hole. Now I'm wondering if maybe the clutch brake is wore out and causing the problem?  Anyway I can't figure any other way to hook the throttle cable up.  Thanks for the answer.

The WT 239 has a hole and a slot on the throttle linkage bracket. The end of the throttle cable should go in the slot. IIRC, it looked a little funny but worked fine. The throttle cable goes on the carb BEFORE mounting carb. Look at the IPL I listed above - you'll see slot. Chain brake has nothing to do with this.

I just looked again and no slot on the linkage, also rechecked the carb and it says WT 239 on it.  I see the one in the IPL has a slot. The guy who owns this is going to sell it in a garage sale anyway so unless I can figure it out soon, I'm going to give it back as is.

Well, that's strange - no slot. The hole is too far for throttle link and will do as you describe - prevented from resting on the idle/TAS screw. I get these carbs on fleabay for $6 at auction usually - sometimes someone jacks up price. Tell guy it would fetch more money if running properly.
