Garrett, What is this part/tool/fixture?

I know is has something to do with the ends on cable right?

 
Its mounted on the rear frame of the skidder.

I do not know what that is, but that skidder is looking real nice!!

Never seen something like that. Is that bottom part sliding back and for ? And located right below the winch ? I am curious too.
Make sure you know how to fall properly when you fall and as to not hurt anyone around you.
Also remember, it's not the fall what hurts, its the sudden stop. !!

The middle or center part slides back and forth. You can make out circular imprints in the steel from someone hammering something like a cable end , so someone in the past used it quite a bit. I figure it must be for something like this

I have never touched a Garret,but wonder did someone add that on themsleves?

Thats it! quite a good idea to tighten the ferrules. and the whole thing is welded into the frame

Its for crimping the ferrel end when building your own chokers I've seen them on all the older Garretts.

That is for holding the tail when tying a knot in your mainline, there is a wedge on the slotted side that once you put the tail in fixture drive down the wedge to tighten the jaws then drum in to tighten knot and trim off the tail, works wonderful.

I wouldn't know how to post a drawing but with a E mail I can send you a drawing of the wedge, these were factory installed and a lot of people welded a cable cutter alongside, let me know if you want the specs on the wedge.
