Took me two chains to figure out I wasn't hitting nails......

That must have made a loud racket before engaging in some wood.

What caused the band to loosen?

Actually didn't hear a thing...

I had collected a rope with the chain a little while back and it bent the plastic that holds the "spring" in place when it wadded up under that cover.... that "spring" could now buckle a little and the band along with it.
