Yup, I am already half way through my first Claxton Fruitcake this year.

That is one treat that I can not pass up and the display is right at the grocery store's front door.   food6

I eat my share, I'm trying to lose weight but just cannot resist the dark fruitcake. :D

My Mom (rest her soul) used to make the best fruitcakes.

I wish I knew someone locally who made them for sale!

No doubt, fruit cakes are good, not so sure why at times they get a bad rap, My Aunt Opal use to make what I thought was the best,  it did seem like she used some rum or something in them, fresh walnuts from the farm, and homemade candied fruit.  I remember Mom talking about how much work went into these cakes,  Aunt Opal would send each one of the brothers and sisters one for Christmas.
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

That looks like good fruitcake, lots of fruit, not much cake!  My wife makes Bourbon balls (this year Rum - no bourbon in the house). They will be some good come Christmas.  Anybody else have bourbon balls at the holiday? It must be a southern tradition 'cause I never had one until I met her - but now it's a 40 year tradition with me too!

QuoteBourbon balls

Southern WI has them too. As well as rum.  'tis the season.

Magicman

There is very little "cake" in the Claxtons.

fruit cake  steve_smiley steve_smiley    why not just put grits in there  :) :)

Magicman

Fruit cake is fruit and nuts.  Grits are made from corn so it is a grain product, but if I was eating cut corn or corn on the cob, I would consider it a vegetable.

I love um both.   food6

I was not going to mention the rubber band to help out with the bourbon problem.
The box of grits remains unopened.  ;D

I had a piece of "store-bought" fruitcake last night.

Wasn't the best, but better than nothing!

I will have to buy another Claxton today.  This one is 'bout gone.

Also a slice in a zip bag is better than any trail bar ever made.
