Daughter brought in a older kitten about 10 months ago that someone had setout on the side of the road on a cold rainy night and begged me to keep it for her.

Guess now you would call it a cat. Of course, like most cats, it loves to play with string. It's a chore of a morning to lace up my boots.

She was outside with me the other day watching me straighting up one of my sheds. Pulled out this long piece of rope to recoil. The look on her face of astonishment was priceless.

Don't know if it was, that sure is a big string or hope I am not around when a cat big enough to play with that comes. She never did try and play with it.

What are some of your funny pet stories?

Ours really entertain us. We have two neurotic toy poodles and a cat with an attitude. The one dog don't take guff from no cat, the other is a complete wuss. One day Gigi, the wuss, wanted to come in but the cat just sat near the door. Not menacing or anything, just sat there. Lulu came in from the bedroom, saw the problem, walked up behind the cat and let out a a loud ROWRF. Cat went straight up and hit the ground running. :D :D
Another day, Lulu was on the sofa beside me chewing a rawhide bone. She dropped it on the floor, rather than retrieving it she just laid there staring. Gigi, to my amazement, got off her bed, walked over, picked up the bone and took it back to her bed. Didn't chew it. Lu was beside herself looked at me with pleading eyes, I told her to go fight her own battles. Lu jumped down, Gigi didn't say anything just raised her head and Lu backed off, she jumped on my lap and started whining. By this time I was in tears laughing.

I had a German shepherd pup sitting next to me watching me eat. She farted ,turned her head to the side looking at her rear end then farted again, jumped up in the air turned 180 degrees in the air a planted her nose into the carpet where her butt was trying to get what ever was attacking her rear end.  :)    Her name was Shiloh butt she new nothing about the WIND. :)

Had a female Husky Malamute mix - Misha. We went to a dog park and a young boy had a science fair project - do dogs show a preference for more expensive treats? He asked if Misha would participate - sure anything for science.

He laid out 6 treats randomly and let the dogs have at 'em. Misha walked up to each treat, sniffed it and walked to the next. After the last one she turned and walked away - none were good enough for her.

About 2 weeks later he posted his results. Dogs do not have a preference for more expensive treats (N=86). All of the dogs ate the treats from left to right or right to left, consuming all of the treats with no preference shown.

Except 1 dog - who did not eat any of the treats. Misha, the outlier.

Misha knew not to take treats from strangers. :)

My wife has a toy poodle "Josie" who I swear knows English, if there's a trick she doesn't know you could teach her in a few minutes if you have a treat in your hand.  My wife works nights and gets off at 6am, we have a big bay window that faces the driveway where we park, 9 times out of 10 at 6am Josie will go sit in the window watching for mom to get home, apparently she can tell time too  :D.

We have a log in the shop that was cut to be a chair.  Well we found it was hollow so it looks almost like a toilet.  For some reason the dogs (4 ofbthem) keep pooping right by it. One even pooped in it!

In addition to the cat I have an older beagle that now acts like he is retired and his main duty is napping. Most of the time he is inside. He will run most cats off.

When this cat came and was staying inside I told him one time to leave it alone and he did. But when he would walk by the cat he would turn his head and not even look at it.

*Sandhills* I think they can sort of tell time. Used to be when he kids were coming in on the school bus the beagle would be out on the hill watching for them.

Strange things our two do: the Golden Retriever sleeps in the tub at night, and during the day, too. When she is "running" during her dreams, her toenails click-click-click on the fiberglass. The Bernese knows when it's time to eat (5 PM), If she doesn't have dinner by then, she gets really antsy and starts "talking" and pacing around the house. The end of daylight savings time messes her up for about a month.

I had a dog that would sleep on the front steps for hours. As soon as I came home,he would jump up,start barking and run in the woods like he was protecting the place. Kinda reminds of some of the guys at work. The boss shows up and they act like they are working.   ::)
This same dog knew what it was when I picked the keys up.
The dog we have now can be sleeping, but as soon as I start to put my sweatshirt on to fill the OWB for the night, she is at my side.

My sister used to have a sled dog that used to defend the Christmas tree, once presents started being placed around it.

If someone was putting a present there, it was ok, but don't try to remove one.

We have 5 beagles 4 outside 1in the house she suffers a little seperation anxiety when i leave so i thought it would be good idea to leave her in our bedroom one day when i left for work, bad idea, by the time my wife got home she had tore through the fitted sheet on the bed and chewed the mattress on my side of the bed clear through to the springs Rhonda was not impressed. Also have several cats they get along pretty good with the older hounds will even shack up with them in their houses at night, but every now and again they enter the wrong house, what a ruckus dogs make out like they are killing the kittys but when you check them over not a scratch just alot of noise.

This little guy isn't really a pet, but he sure did do some funny stuff.

These new computers are so simple - even a bird brain can use them.  :D

I found this little guy in the woods when he was about 4 days old and his eyes where still closed. The nest was laying on the ground and momma bird was nowhere to be found. He is now full grown and has returned to the wild.

Our dog is mostly a city boy, loves his fenced in back yard.   He has made it a point to go after everything that makes it into his domain!   Well when he was still a pup (30 lb yearling) he managed to grab a hold of a young woodchuck.   He had it tore up pretty good & got a bite or two to his nose in return.   Well anyhow there was a 2 or 3" by maybe 6' long branch and I went down to settle the noise & end its suffering.   I backed BEAR off a bit and a quick whomp ended it, then BEAR looked at me like with BIG eyes & backed away slowly.   I wasn't mad at him but I gave him a look at pointed that stick at him jokingly of course but I think he got the point.   Now any time I pick up a stick I'll point it at him and I get instant firewood, he breaks up the sticks into chunks about 2feet long or less.   Then we toss em into the fire pit, while he is growling like it was a woodchuck all over again.   He is mostly a silent dog, rare to bark (unless something needs to be barked at) & when he is stick killing.

Funny thing is that he has gotten many woodchucks and opossums since & is usually almost quite until he has finished them off himself.   Once he figured they are well tenderized he will make enough noise to attract one of us to see what he is up too.   By that time he will be barking & jumping around the remains as proud as he can be.   Bad part is it is usually day right after trash has gone so the stinky thing gets to set around or I have to haul it out to the farm for the buzzards... ::)

Dogs are amazingly smart, and patient to put up with not so smart humans at times ;D  Missy has all kinds of weird things she does, her way of showing her worth I reckon, and she never fails to bring her ride pass when loading up in the truck,

only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

My wife and I have three Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.  Our male dog named "Auggie", uses the typical chessie "growl, grin, talking" habit that scares the hell outta folks that don't know our dogs.  One day my helper and I came home and noticed a very nice lady plastered against the shed wall, terrified out of her mind.  Auggie was standing at her feet, growling, nashing his teeth, and just plain talking to her.  At her feet was training bumper, and Auggie was desperately trying to teach her to play "fetch".  The poor lady was terrified, and in an outta breath voice said, "I don't know if he wants to play with me or eat me!"  I hate to let people know they are harmless, so I just looked at her and said, "Well I guess he does have teeth.  If I were you I would have tried the fetch game."   ;D ;D ;D ;D  She didn't stay around long enough to tell me what she needed, just ran to her truck and left like a bat outta hell!   Chessies have a way of doing that to people.  Scare' em with kindness I suppose.    8)

Our mastiff Miley is kind of like that but her teeth chatter when she gets excited, all our friends and neighbors know her so it doesn't bother them.  So far the only person I've seen scared of her was when my banker came out for his farm tour and wouldn't get out of his truck, she got extra treats that day  :D.  My landlord has had all kinds of family (strangers to Miley) here working around the place along with a lot of little kids tagging along, everybody loves that dog and she loves everybody back, but man would I hate to be the one that makes her mad, I've seen her eat a T-bone in 4 chomps (crunches)  :o.

When I was a kid, I dated a young lady whose father raised Bull Mastiffs.  They averaged 100+ pounds easily, and were always friendly until the day her father went on a business trip.  I dated that girl for three years, at her house on regular basis, often spending Sunday afternoons watching football with her Dad.  In the living room her father had an old easy chair that was his throne.  No one in the family dared sit in that chair, except of course me on that fateful day.  Her dad was gone, and that chair was calling me, I swear. :D  I plopped down and was feeling pretty good, until "Injun Joe" came barreling into the room.  He instinctively tromped over to where I was sitting, and at the last moment saw that I WAS NOT HIS MASTER!!  He broke into a deep growl, barred his teeth and was about to disembowel me when her mother came running into the room and grabbed his collar, escorting him to the rear door  Her father was a Korean war Marine, decorated with five purple hearts, a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for valor, a large man over six feet, about two hundred and fifty pounds...  When he returned home he was shaken about the incident, apologized for the dog, but told me that at a dog show where he had taken Injun Joe, he had disemboweled a large Great Dane in seconds, and even with his size he couldn't stop it from happening.  I felt pretty darn lucky, and have always looked a Bull Mastiffs differently since then.  I knew that dog on a daily basis before that day, had played with him, and trusted him like my own.  Just goes to show that all dogs, all breeds can have a protective side if need be.  Inside of a family home is their domain, outside of that environment may be a completely different matter.  I love Bull dogs, but you do have to be careful with all guard dog breeds.  My Chessies included.

I agree completely, even with those breeds that aren't "guard" dogs, the one we have to watch the most is my daughter's tea cup chiwawa (I know spelling isn't right) especially around kids, they see her and she's the first thing they go for because she's so cute.  I do firmly believe though that if you're not here to harm my family you'd never have to worry about Miley, if you are, then God be with you  ;), I wouldn't trade her for nothing.

Amen, Sandhills.  They call them "ankle biters" for a reason!  I used to work on Pax River Naval Air Station as a maintenance man a long time ago.  They had a rule that tenants in the housing area, couldn't have a dog that weighed over 30 pounds.  Never understood that one.  I don't think they ever enforced it, and it really didn't make a difference at all.   I'd walk by large dogs all day that never growled or barked at me, but look out for the little mutts.  Got bit on the ankle more than once! :D :D

My sisters dogs are always up to something. I went out to do some chores with her tonight and she opened the crate in the back of the RTV and Fern jumped in just like she was supposed to. The other dog didn't want to go in, so I turned on the flashlight to see what was going on. Apparently there were a few grain tubs in the crate. :D

Here's both of ours. The yellow lab I got a little over a year ago. The dog I always wanted. Her name is Tess and goes with me about everywhere. Quite a story on this one and how we got her. In the back ground is our half pug/half rat terrier Mattie. We've had her about 12 years now, both very good dogs and we'd be lost with out them.

My sister has a blue heeler with a big mouth. Whenever he sees a dog on the sidewalk in town, he has to bark and jump all over the inside of the truck. Unless it's a big pitbull, then he hides. :D
