My father in law just called me and wants some help getting a stihl 88 running again.

He was cutting with it running just fine and it died and now it has no spark.  Before I go over to help him I figured I would ask the experts here.  Are there any common problems on this saw that would cause no spark?  Any tricks to tracking down what the problem is other than follow the wiring and check one component at a time?

Try a new plug. If that does not solve it, disconnect the kill switch and try again. If you now have spark you have isolated the problem. If still no joy you are replacing the module.

Actually, disconnect the wire for the kill switch at the ignition coil. That way you are sure not to be fooled by a short circuited wire.

Been there, and wasted a lot of time.
