This afternoon, some of the KHS forestry students went on a walk through the Green Swamp looking for bugs, diseases and disorders that affect trees.  Most of these kids live in subdivisions and rarely get to see much of this firsthand.  They had their compasses, Biltmore sticks, volume tahttp://www.forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/22883/thumb_p__sawflies.JPGbles and probably some other stuff that they did not end up using until the hike was over.  Everywhere I wanted them to measure trees was too wet to easily access so we just looked and went on 2 1/2 hour walk.   https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/22883/thumb_b_pine_sawflies.JPG Black headed pine sawflies
