This site has an interesting approach to utilizing small diameter trees in Western forests.

Would be interesting to learn what system is used to get the flooring from the tamarack stems.  Anyone know?

My experience with small fast growing tamarack is that it is VERY unstable.  We have sawn some wind throws up to the cabin and its ridiculous how much that stuff cups.

I was approached by a company called Hunter Lake Flooring a couple years ago. I think they were from New Brunswick. He had a nice website but I couldn't find it last night. He had a DH kiln and he said the Tamarack twisted and warped. I tried some in a vac kiln and it was like drying any softwood. Easy as could be. It makes a darn pretty floor from logs that look like junk (to me).
