Can anyone tell me what model this is?  That way i can lookup specs, most importantly weight and width.

Thanks!

Sure looks like a 15.  What engine does it have?  Is the winch a Gearmatic 9?

brendonv

I was thinking 15.

Ford industrial diesel.

Not sure on winch. Needs work has parts.

Waiting for a call back.

The cab is confusing. Looks too professional to be an add on. But doesn't match any 15 pics.  Looks similar to some i see on c4

So my knowledge a bit limited on this and I've been wrong before...

Anyway, could be a 15 or a 10, easiest way to tell is the winch, 10 had a gearamatic 8, 15's had a 9.

The other way is the motor displacement, which is kinda hard to tell just from look'n at it. Both had v-4 ford industrials. wanna say it was like a 140something or a 172ci?

I'm not positive but the axles are interchangeable, the trans may not be though.

If it was a bit newer and had a diesel engine it might be a 16,
well that didn't work

brendonv

Thank you. Im hoping he calls. Its priced right it seems.  I dont need a skidder, but always had a thing for the little garretts so it can plow the driveway until i find a use for it.  :D. Would this machine weigh under 10k?

It has to way less than 10,000 that's about what the 21 weighs.

thenorthman

Thats looking more like the 16 with the two blade cylinders and diesel motor, it'll weigh right around 10k, still light enough to move with a goose neck and a 1 ton truck.

The 21 is a much bigger machine, I wouldn't expect it to be less then 14k... they are bigger than a deere 440, and close to a 540 in size.

Not to mention the 21 is a newer design and has a more better cage one with proper side guards and something resembling operator comfort.

In all the 10-15-16's are very small machines, you could easily park a 10 in the family garage next to the mini van and it wouldn't look all that weird.
well that didn't work

Brendonv, pretty sure that machine is up my way. Could be wrong but looks like one I see that sat for awhile in the bushes then got moved awhile back in Erving.

The cab on my 20 has me confused also. Looks a little home made but not sure? Is there a brass tag on the dashboard telling model #.

1968 Garrett 20 Skidder
1991 Ford 1920 Tractor/Loader
2000 Takeuchi tb135 Excavator
Stihl 020, 041 Super, 084
Husqvarna 61, 181SE, 357XP

brendonv

Looks similar for sure.

Might let it pass and wait to find a model 10. I have a dually one ton and a dual axle dual wheel trailer as my tow options.  Two hour ride dmv guys might not like it.

Looks like it could be a 15 or 16, I went to post a picture of my tag on the dash of my 15, but when I went to the gallery it said I was banned from this site. Could someone look into this.

brendonv

Ok ive got some info.

Model 8a winch. Thinks its the 172 ford diesel.

He said there is a tag that says c5. He said its no where near the size of a c5. More like small c4. Runs, smokes a little. Stays in gear. Drives, and blade works.

Can anyone decifer any of the above?

Also. Will parts be available for the winch?  IS there a manual I can look at in the mean time?

gearomatic parts are available,

Garret last I heard was still sorta working, one of the boys or whatever was taking care of whatever parts and manuals was around, its been a few years but you should be able to find them on facebook or google search it.  From the sounds of it the Enumclaw factory is a bit of a mess.
well that didn't work

It looks like it is newer than a 15A which is what my machine is, with the 172 ford diesel, 59 hp. With the squared off radiator cover, it looks a bit newer. If it is an 8A winch, that is the same as the 15A though.  For sure the cab has been modified with the screen all around. Looks like a keeper.

A keeper for $2500?
I paid 3000 for mine in 2006. The winch didn't work and it ran but not real well. It runs excellent now, but the winch is still lacking.  When I get around to it(and the funds), I plan on a dual spool winch to replace the 8A. Great machine for the $.

If it is, not by much. Pretty close to the same size physically, not sure on HP, the 172 diesel as spec'ed by Garrett was 59HP. Maybe the 440 is 70-80hp?  Not sure. You can pretty well pull 500 bd ft in a drag, if you are chained up, and decent ground maybe just under 1000 bd ft, but it gets hard to steer if you load it up too much. Great little machines tho.

just comparing to are 15s it does not look the same, close but not a copy.
it looks kinda like a blend of a 10, 15, 16, 21 all in one.  ??? but at the same time it looks mostly like a 15 other then the roll cage.
all are 15s have 28" rims and run 14.9 or 13.6 tires. so anything smaller then 28" rims could mabe be a 10 but they look as big or bigger then the tires we have.

we move are 15s with a 1 ton, not very far or fast but its better then roading them.
when we got the last one, a 15 bean burner, it was about a 20 mile hall, that was a new record for the ol ford idi 7.3
it was doing the i think i can-i think i can-i think i can. all the way...as its cinda tuckered out....+......a auto trans.....
many Garrett 15s
