I dropped off my newly purchased MS180 at the Stihl dealer to have it looked at, while I was there, I checked out the 362 CM to replace my 22 year old 034, the 034 still runs ok but it won't hold a steady rpm when cutting, so I'm going to tear it down this winter, anyway the one I was looking at had a 24 inch bar, I prefer a 20 inch bar and could have got it $10.00 less with the 20 incher, but figured I would be money ahead staying with the 24 incher and using the 20 inch bar off my 034 at least for now. After I got home I pulled the shield off the bar and discovered I had the ES bar instead of the E one. I paid $759.00 so don't know if I got a good deal or not. I cut up a 24 inch hemlock soon as I got home, using both bars.....So far I love this saw.

Congrats on the new saw. Far as I know 20" is top.of the E bars and anything over is an ES, unless some other type like harvester, etc. Good call getting the 24" for $10, would be a lot more to buy it later on.

I think you probably got a 25" bar not 24". What is the part number on the bar? The ES bar is  worth 30% more than the E. My saw came with a 16" 0.050" gauge E bar. Really makes quick work of small bucking jobs. The smaller gauge needs more frequent sharpening, but seems to cut faster with slightly less waste. When I switched to the carbide chain the smaller gauge saved me half the price of the larger gauge carbide chain and the more frequent sharpening was no longer an issue.

Thanks JohnG28 and d1hamby for the info and yes I got a 25 inch ES yellow bar with RS chains not the 24 incher also I'm going to buy a 20 inch ES bar (not sure if I want the green or yellow yet)  for the 362 CM when I get back to the dealer.  Through the years I never paid much attention to what color code the bar was or if I was getting RS or RM chain from the dealer but since I bought this 362 I really enjoy cutting firewood more than I used to and will start paying more attention now.

I have an E bar on my 361, and it's held up well but with occasional use, not regular. If using daily or weekly even might go for the ES for little better wear. In regards to Stihl bars, their 25"=24" to everyone else.  The chain dl counts are the same regardless of the brand in most cases as well. D1, I assume you are talking about going to lo pro chain?  Changing gauges will not effect the kerf. Gauge is distance between the bar rails.

The Rollomatic E is made in 25" (called) length.

Stihl mount 25" bars are the same length (dl count) as 24" bars for other brands.

Never seen one here, only seen them on 20" and under. I haven't gone looking for a 24/25" E bar ever though either.

You are absolutely correct the kerf is exactly the same with these two different gauges, but the smaller gauge just seems to cross cut through the logs faster, while also wearing out faster. When your doing light cutting you want the smaller gauge and when your doing a lot of cutting you definitely want the heavier gauge. The chains last much longer.
