As I've said before....my favorite log to mill is Poplar.

I sawed 292 bf this week. I milled it into table slabs 1=1/2" thick x  22 inches wide. I included the 3x5's for legs.
All this lumber was just over a little 10 foot long.
Enough here for a couple of farm tables or a large table with benches.

I advertised it at $1.25 / bf. It was gone in 2 days.
This was some really nice looking lumber. The customer also bought a Walnut board to be used for bow ties to secure the splits on the ends. If I mill Poplar into siding....the best I can get is 60 cents a bf. But mill it into table stock and I get more than double siding prices. The market around here is funny.

Red is gas, white is lube. What are your No. 1 and 2 favorites?

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

That's yellow poplar, we call it tulip round here, It's my favorite to mill also.  Have it in abundance back home.  Grows straight as an arrow and doesnt have any branches for the first 50 feet or so.  Great for lot of stuff.  Good firewood, splits easy.  Light.  Looks awesome.
