Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a tach for tuning my saws? Also in tips on tuning is also appreciated.

Thanks

I've never used a tach, although I think there are a couple models out there that run about $100 or so. I think Stihl markets one.

I have the "A" model in the picture and it works well.
Check your owners manual, the steps to tuning your saw should be in there.

Hey!  That's neat, Kevin.   Is it just for single cylinder engines or are there instructions for multiple cylinders.

Kevin

Just for singles Tom, although I don't know what the other model does.

We should propose a solution to RonW or DonP EZ or one of those other number guys. :D

Just  for kicks, what could be the variables.  2 stroke to 4 stroke.  1 cyl to 2  to 4 to 6 to 8.........  a 3 cylinder would throw a monkey wrench in the works. :D

Maybe you could divide....uh.....multiply..... rpm's by cyliders to get true Rpms if they were two strokes.  Then multiply by 2 if it is a 4 stroke.  ::) ::) :P ::) :-/  HEck.....I don't know.....I'm beginning to feel real stupid.  .........Maybe they have model of tach for my motor.  :D :D

Dale;
   I did some research on this subject a while back.  Some of the guys on the various forums recommended the Tiny-Tach.  My wife got me one for Christmas and it works well.

Paul,
Thanks for the link, I had it in my mind that those things were like $100. They look like they are intended to be mounted, is it real easy to just use them for a tune and then remove?

If you have more than one cylinder and all conected to the same crankshaft it seems to me they all have to run the same speed ::) or else you got real problems :-/

I just orderd the Stihl model A pictured here from my local dealer.

It should be in early next week. I'll let everyone know how it works when I give it a try.
