Good evening all . I have a 625 early 90's . It was used hard for 12 years 100 cords a year . Been sitting around used one or two time a year for the last 10 years . Now back to cutting again . Life change LOL Any thought as to what I should do to keep the saw running well . Or should I look to replace it . Still starts and runs well .  ???

If it starts and runs well, why think of replacing it?

X2. But if you wanted a new saw I would keep that for a spare. As far as new saws 2166 jonsered or 365 husky are good saws. 562xp's are awsome as well I love mine! I am sure there are some good stihls too I am just not familiar with them

You should check the crankshaft seals, they are a weak spot on those saws, but easily checked. Just about the only weak spot!!!

By all means keep it - but if you wan't a lighter saw for the same purpose the 555/2158 are prime candidates.

Absolutely ditto....    and the 2158 looks a lot better than the 555 too. For $550 dollars so out fitted with bar and chain its one of the best all around saws you can buy.

And the 625??? Build it into a 272 top end hybrid ... then "CAD" will have taken hold...

Sure, but I don't think that is just a simple bolt on job. More than the top end will likely have to be changed, but I don't know the details.

Some members will know though.....

I shore would not be apposed to up grading / rebuilding my 625 . crank seals are still good I checked yesterday . Not shore what it would take to Get parts and Make this saw a little hotter. I ran a 266 back in high School that was for competition. That was fast . Some on in Fremont or Raymond . Made the chains and Tuned the saw  . We even Had an ( M ) Tooth that no one could touch ( time wise )  We cut a lot of cookies getting ready to compete. And see who was best matched pairs . THE GOOD Old days . LOL  What Fun we had . Jim L was our coach . What a Nice Guy . Miss the old days .
