Hey everyone. It's been quite a while since I've visited the Forestry Forum. My oh my how I've missed it!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm still alive  ;D It's been quite a year thus far... :-\ but I think things are perking back up.
I've been sawing some poplar and bald cypress whenever I have time...which isn't very often nowadays.
I hope everyone is doing well. Looking forward to becoming a "regular" on here again.

It's good to see you back.  :)

It is always good to see the fruits of your labor actually in use.  That Poplar looks nice.   smiley_thumbsup

Nice looking wall.... Is it t&g or a simple bevel??

My buddy wants to build some one-family cabins on his property near kalkaska and we're wanting to use the mill for some siding.

Thanks for sharing!!!

QuoteNice looking wall.... Is it t&g or a simple bevel??

He said it is t&g.
He also didn't kiln dry it (I thought he was going to). He said it was about 18% MC.
I am curious as to how much it will shrink...

18% MC is a bit much for me, but I guess that the V-groove will help to camouflage the shrinking.  It will be interesting and I would love to get a report on it a year from now.

We're just air drying, but we like the look of rough sawn board and batten...any experience with that?

I agree. I'm ready to build a couple solar kilns.

Yep, me too.  After I build a barn, after I excavate the land where the barn will sit, after I clear the land where the barn will sit.  It's a never ending work cycle, eh?   ;D

I've been sawing quite a bit of Bald Cypress lately for a friend who is building a cabin on his property.
Here's a few boards from the other day....along with a little cedar.

And here's some poplar that I cut for a buddy a while back...pretty stuff.

Hey John, I suppose you'll be doing some unofficial white tail "research" in that tower behind old Mr Deere in before too long.  ;)

Haven't gotten to mill any cypress here yet. There is some down state, but it's almost entirely in preserve lands.
