Have a friends 455 Rancher here . Carb screws have slots and I don't see any plastic limiters . But the Hi and Low screws only turn a half a turn . Am I missing something or is this normal ?

They have different limiters. The screw head end is normal but they're in behind it. IIRC you have to push them down towards the body of the saw and unscrew the H and L jets all the way out. You can then take the limiters out and reinstall the jets and springs, sans limiters.

Thank you , would you happen to know how many turns out to start with after the limiters are out ?

No problem. Start around 1 turn out from lightly seated. That should get it running and be a good starting point.

Them days are long gone.

Try 2 1/2 on the high and 1 1/2 on the low to start with.

When I reworked my 350 1 turn out each is where I started and it fired up in a couple pulls. I'm not saying leave them there, I'm saying that will get it running for fine tuning. I don't have any saws off top of my head with even 2 full turns out and they're all tuned well.

Sure are.  Had some other Husky models 435 IIRC, Homelites, off the top of my head.

Neither do I - but a lot of newer models have quite different basic settings, as do some older ones.
You need to know what it is for each model at hand, or sooner or later get into trouble.... ;)

I tuned a small Husky for a neighbor. Seems I had to rebuild the carb. I remember scratching my head thinking the high side was still clogged before I found that it needed to be a few turns out. Don't remember the model number.
