replaced clutch in skidder now no pto pulled motor again and could see where outer shaft that runs pto was riding on outer edge of clutch disc what could be problem  could outer shaft have been pushed into tranny and how to get it out

did you reuse the old pressure plate?? the pto drives off the pressure plate. were there spacers between the pressure plate and flywheel?

As you haven't given the specific model ( 440 / 440A / 440B)  the serial # of the machine , transmission type ( power shift or syncro- range)  it is difficult to help at this point.  Their are several clutch disks and pressure plates for these machines by serial # breaks. Are you sure you were given the correct ones for your machine. You can check out the various options for these parts, go to the JD parts catalog online. Do a search for 440 and then look for section 1256 Log Skidders , sectional index # 40 clutch and clutch housing. Part #'s are listed for both power shift and  syncro- range transmissions.  Hope this helps.

it is a 440a pto worked prior to motor rebuild and we put in new clutch thought i checked out old and new  were the same

was the new pressure plate exactly the same as the old one? is the pto lever in gear? did the snap rings that hold the pto fork break or slide on the shaft?? i need a little more imfo to help you
