This year I decided to cut some big mesquite, and split it up for firewood.  I've got a small stack about 4 1/2 ft high and about 15 ft long.  I was out there doing some splitting and I noticed that at the base of my mesquite stack I could see what looked like saw dust.  I got down real close to look at it and I could hear bugs eating the wood.  I could even see some small specks coming out of some small holes.  I remember seeing some odd looking bugs on it when I was splitting and stacking but didn't really give it much thought.  The bugs are mostly black with green stripes along their sides.

My first instinct was to put seven dust on the wood but I don't know how that would fare in my fireplace next winter.

One good thing is they don't seem interested in my oak.  (at least so far)

Any ideas on what they are and how to get rid of them?
